Learning Objectives

The learner will be able to:

  • Recognize and measure P wave, QRS complex, T-wave, PR interval and QT interval
  • Correctly measure EKG elements necessary for rhythm identification
  • Identify correct EKG lead placement and correct issues that lead to poor EKG tracings
  • Recognize the following common cardiac rhythms
    • Sinus bradycardia
    • Sinus rhythm
    • Junctional rhythm
    • Atrial fibrillation
    • Atrial flutter
    • First degree heart block
    • Second degree heart blocks, type 1 and type 2
    • Third degree heart block
    • Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT)
    • Ventricular Tachycardia
    • Ventricular Fibrillation
    • Asystole
    • Pulseless Electrical Activity
    • Pacemaker initiated rhythms
    • Ectopic beats – PAC, PJC, PVC
